NEW QUALIFICATIONS

Level 1 Award in Prevent Duty Awareness

The Counter Terrorism and Security Act (2015) requires a wide range of public-facing bodies to have “due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism” . This is known as the Prevent duty. This qualification has been produced in response to a demand for a qualification for learners in schools and colleges to address this. The aim is to raise awareness of the Prevent agenda and the duties required under it. This is a one unit qualification and can be delivered and assessed online.

Level 3 Award in Prevent Duty Awareness

This qualification is designed mainly for managers, practitioners and support staff who have a duty under the Prevent agenda as part of their Continuing Professional Development (CPD). But it is also relevant to learners who are aspiring to professions which are affected by the Prevent agenda, such as nursing and teaching. This is a one unit qualification and can be delivered and assessed online.

Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of Business and Administration

The aim of this qualification is to provide learners with the underpinning knowledge and understanding they need for administrative and supervisory roles. It is ideal for those who want to develop a broad but sufficiently in-depth understanding of business and administration with a view to creating a successful career in this field.

Level 1 Certificate in Skills for Professions

Produced as a result of demand for qualifications with clear progression pathways, this suite of nine Level 1 Certificate qualifications cover the following sectors.

  • Animal care
  • Applied science and technology
  • Business, administration and finance
  • Creative and digital industries
  • Early years
  • Hair and beauty
  • Health and social care
  • Public services
  • Sport

These qualifications have been designed to fit with the requirements of the Department for Education’s 16-19 study programme initiative. This means that the size of the qualification allows for the other required elements of maths, English, work experience and enrichment activities to be taken simultaneously. Learning and exemplar assessment materials are available for many of the units in these qualifications, to support you with their delivery.

Level 1 Certificate in Skills for Vocational Studies

Many learners want qualifications that offer the flexibility to study subjects across a range of vocational areas before specialising. This qualification combines the learning units and the full range of vocational units that are in the Level 1 Certificates in Skills for Professions (above), plus an additional group of units for Engineering.

Level 1 Award in Skills for Vocational Studies

Using the same units as the Level 1 Certificate in Vocational Studies (above) this ‘bite-sized’ Award can act as a ‘taster’ qualification for learners who have not decided on a specific vocational area and are not yet ready to commit to a larger qualification.

Level 1 Certificate in Learning and Employability Skills for Progression to Vocational Study

This qualification is ideal for learners who have achieved a Level 1 qualification but are not ready for higher level study. They combine Level 1 learning units with Level 2 employability units. Learners are required to achieve units at both Levels 1 and 2.

New Peer Mentoring units for the Level 3 Award/Certificate in Progression

The following peer mentoring units have been added to the Level 3 qualifications in Progression.

  • Peer Mentoring Skills
  • Peer Mentoring for Learning

Level 3 Certificate and Dimploma in Domestic Abuse: Prevention and Early Intervention

SafeLives is a national charity dedicated to ending domestic abuse. OCN London has been working with SafeLives to develop these two qualifications for professionals working with victims of domestic abuse and their families. They provide people with the underpinning skills needed in their role, whether this involves prevention or intervention. The Certificate is aimed at those wishing to qualify to work in one particular area. The Diploma is for those who require a more comprehensive qualification which enables them to gain skills and knowledge in more than one area, or who have already achieved the Certificate in one area and would like to extend their specialisms to other roles.

Level 3 Award in Community Campaigning

Helping people to develop the skills they need to be active campaigners in their local community is the aim of a new qualification we have developed in partnership with Friends of the Earth. Learners will gain an insight into how they can engage with bringing about positive change in their own community in an ethical and responsible way, whilst developing useful transferable skills. The qualification can be delivered in a range of contexts and is a valuable enhancement programme for 16-18 year-olds in schools and colleges.

Level 2 Award in Assessing Daily Living Equipment for People with Disabilities

Following a request by the Disabled Living Foundation, we have developed this qualification to provide people with the skills and knowledge to be able to assess and fit basic daily living equipment for people with disabilities. Learners are likely to be those who are involved with independent living and rehabilitation services in the home and community.
