The Money Mentors courses at Toynbee Hall in London’s East End is helping to empower people in the community to manage their personal finances.
Toynbee Hall, a community organisation founded in 1884, works with people in one of the poorest areas of London. They uncovered a need within the community, to be able to handle their personal finances and make sense of financial jargon. OCN London has worked in partnership with staff, helping them develop the Community Money Mentors course that incorporates personal and household finance, alongside interpersonal, IT and digital skills. Over 350 people have attended the course and gained the qualification. What was the impact? Significant improvements in understanding finance, a marked decrease in levels of anxiety and overall improvements in wellbeing.
