Gardening projects run by the charity St. Mungo’s are helping homeless people to rebuild their lives and take the first steps towards employment
Best known as a charity for homeless people, St Mungo's provides opportunities for people in the greatest need to learn new skills and improve their self-confidence. Its ‘putting down roots’ programme with its emphasis on physical activity and team work has helped many to improve their mental health, take the first step towards employment and gain an OCN London award in progression. But it has also tackled environmental projects that have had a huge impact on local communities. Clients have planted in bare open spaces, restored a churchyard in London’s Waterloo and supplied hotels and cafes. They have even won garden design awards.
