Do you have young learners that need to improve their basic skills and gain work experience? We can help with our flexible qualifications that can be easily packaged into a traineeship offer.

What is a traineeship?

Traineeships are designed to build confidence and provide preparation for and progression into apprenticeships or employment. With a duration of up to six months, traineeships can equip learners aged 16-24 with the necessary skills and work experience required by employers.

The three key elements of traineeships are:

  • a work experience placement between 100-240 hours;
  • work preparation training;
  • English and Maths qualifications (for learners without a GCSE grade C or above in these subjects).

You can also incorporate an additional subject specific training element into a traineeship, for example a qualification or bespoke provision focussed on a particular job role or sector.

They are ideal for young people who:

  • have not yet achieved a full level 3 qualification;
  • are unemployed and have little or no work experience;
  • are motivated to work.

"The purpose of traineeships is demonstrated in the Traineeships: First Year Process Evaluation which reported that 50 per cent of trainees progressed into to apprenticeships or employment, and a further 17 per cent undertook further learning after their traineeship."

As a bonus, to help support you with delivery of our Level 1 Award in Employability we have created free electronic learner assessment workbooks for a package of units as part of the full qualification along with an electronic tutor guide. These easy to use materials can also be used in conjunction with the OCN London ePortfolio tool – OPT, allowing you to easily store and track all your assessment work in one safe place and save time by removing the burden of keeping paper-based records.
