BSix Sixth Form College is a small sixth form college in the London borough of Hackney. Hackney is one of the most socially and economically deprived boroughs in the country and the unemployment rate is significantly above the rate for London and the United Kingdom. The college provides vocational and academic 16 to 19 study programmes for around 1,200 students. Most students are aged 16 to 19, and study on programmes at level 3.
The college is offering Access to Nursing course for students who are 19+ wishing to pursue a career in areas related to nursing. The Access to Higher Education Diploma (Nursing) is a Level 3 qualification which prepares people without traditional qualifications for study at university.
It is designed for adults with a current or previous role in care e.g. nursery assistant, care assistant, care worker; adults who, because of social, educational or individual circumstances, were unable to participate in or benefit from initial education; adults from groups under-represented in higher education and adults seeking a change of direction because of unemployment or lack of career opportunities in their previous field and who have a demonstrable interest in entering a nursing related profession.
